Flying from Brussels Airport

June 04, 2020

On 15 June Belgian borders are reopening for non-essential travel inside Europe/the Schengen Zone and passengers will be able to fly again from Brussels Airport. What will travel look like in these Covid times? We put the question to Brussels Airport.

As in other places we ask that you respect all safety and hygiene regulations at the airport:

  • First of all, it remains absolutely crucial to adhere strictly to all hygiene regulations and maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 metres from other people.
  • Face masks are compulsory at the airport for everyone over 6 years old.
  • Before you enter the airport thermal cameras will measure your body temperature. This scan is fast and efficient and causes little or no inconvenience or delay. Please note that entry to the airport will be refused if your temperature exceeds 38°C.

Like always it’s important to arrive at the airport on time: two and a half hours in advance for travel within the Schengen zone and three and a half hours outside the Schengen zone. At the moment travelling outside the Schengen zone is reserved for essential travel only.

In addition to these adjustments Brussels Airport has also implemented a host of measures to protect the health of airport staff and passengers: adjusted queues, stickers announcing preventive measures and where (not) to sit, counters with plexiglass, sanitising gel dispensers, extra cleaning, the use of UVS technology, special coating on frequently touched surfaces, etc.

Are you coming to the airport in the foreseeable future? We ask that you cooperate fully and maintain a safe distance to protect both yourself and others.

As an airport, we continue to closely monitor the situation regarding the Covid-19 pandemic in conjunction with the Belgian health authorities and if necessary we are ready to implement any additional measures on a moment’s notice.
